Differences between Painting and Drawing “Languages”
The Languages of Painting and Drawing
Sherrie McGraw
Sherrie explains why painting and drawing are very different languages and require very different solutions. Drawing is an intimate medium meant to be seen up close but painting is meant to be seen from far away. The Kings and the Pope commissioned work from the artisans of the time. These paintings had to be seen from a distance, which meant that the artists needed to keep the shapes in the painting simple and strong so they would read easily, like a billboard. You will find out how the illusion of form is created differently in paint and in charcoal.
After watching this video, you will appreciate how different painting and drawing really are.
