1. 2024-04-03 WEEKLY ATELIER/ Gregg Kreutz: Painting Imaginary Landscapes-1
After years of painting on the streets of New York City and traveling the world painting its beauty, Gregg has cataloged hundreds of city and landscape elements in his head. With that wealth of information, he will inspire you to explore your own ideas by showing how paying attention to your environment can result in being capable of inventing a scene. Join us in the four-part series as Gregg guides us to probe the nature of perception and understand what we perceive in a way that allows us to create scenes out of our imagination. It will be enlightening and fun.
11:30 AM MST (approximately 1.5 hrs)

2. 2024-04-07 SUNDAYS WITH DAVID LEFFEL: Creating Dimension with Paint
David shows the viewer how simple creating dimension can be. Using thick, sensual paint, follow along as he takes you brushstroke by brushstroke through the problems of painting a portrait. David explains what he is doing to make the structure of the form and then magically, the features appear. Witness his masterful control of the warms and cools thus giving the illusion of dimension. He also gives great insights into the forms of the face, done with planes and corners – instead of drawing. Sherrie and Jacqueline ask questions as he effortlessly explains his process and shows how paint can come alive by making beautiful brushstrokes.

6. 2024-04-20 and 21 WEEKEND WORKSHOP: Portraits
The portrait is a time-honored area of study for most artists. If you have ever struggled with this subject, you are in luck. In Bright Light’s upcoming workshop, we will air a never-before-seen self-portrait done by David in his studio. You’ll benefit from having him explain what he is doing, one brushstroke at a time. He will answer–in real time–all your questions about this subject matter and de-escalate any fears you have of tackling all that it entails. On the second day, Sherrie will do a live demonstration of a Native American model. Both instructors will address how to strike a balance between the likeness of the model and the artist’s intention for the painting. If you’ve never painted portraits, after this weekend, you’ll be eyeing your friends and family with a piqued interest. And if this is a passion of yours, you’ll learn how to handle portraiture more simply and powerfully. You won’t want to miss this vital workshop on portraiture.
