As seasons are changing around the world, we invite you to join us on a visual exploration from the ocean’s rocky shore to the grandeur of the mountains, ending with a demo where mountain men are the subjects of a landscape.

If you have been wanting someone to set your work on the right path, this is your chance for a life-changing experience for less than the cost of most 3-day workshops; and yet, you’ll always have a front row seat and close up viewing of the demonstrations with the ability to ask questions.

Each session is presented live, allowing attendees to learn in real time, engage with the material, and benefit from the dynamic nature of a live workshop environment.

You can either Audit or Fully Participate, the latter meaning being able to directly speak to David, Sherrie or Jackie and also having your work appraised in a comprehensive, inspirational critique by experienced and compassionate instructors.

Critiques:

These online workshop critiques have proved enormously effective.

By taking the time to get to know each student, we use many ways to open your mind to the panoply of possibilities suggested by your ideas. We choose examples from past and present artists that will expand your appreciation of a problem and give other ways to solve it beautifully. We also do annotations over your painting to show possibilities as well as pop-up demonstrations to explain simpler ways to solve a problem.

The only situation comparable is an in-person workshop where we are face-to-face with our students. But even in that situation, we wouldn’t have visuals of comparable ideas and how they were solved for direct comparison to your own work.

Students are raving about its life-changing impact and we feel this workshop format idea has exceeded all our expectations.

Auditing – Unlimited Spaces

For those who prefer to observe and learn at their own pace.

As a Viewer Attendee, you can:

  • Attend the webinar live via Zoom
  • Watch the complete Online Class
  • Watch the complete Critique Sessions
  • Submit questions throughout the session which may contribute to the Q&A at the end.

Questions submitted by viewers may be answered during the demonstration or in a dedicated 20-minute Q&A session held at the end of each webinar.

This Auditing option provides an affordable and flexible way to access the full educational content while still benefiting from expert guidance and discussion.

The Curriculum:

WEEK ONE: Painting Waves and Gardens

Situated on the northern coast of Oregon, Jacqueline Kamin paints waves crashing on rocks from a video, showing how you too can feel you are working from life yet painting in the comfort of your own studio. Quite often when traveling there isn’t time to stop and paint everything that inspires you and she’ll show you how to capture the excitement of life even if you aren’t painting on the spot. She will also paint one of the many lush gardens that gives her area its tourist appeal. Jackie, David and Sherrie will answer all your questions in depth as the demonstrations unfold.

WEEK TWO: Tackling Mountains

Sherrie and/or David will paint the mountains in their own backyard in the high desert of Taos, New Mexico. Clouds are a prominent feature at this altitude, so they will play an interesting part in Sherrie’s studies of the elusive light and changing weather patterns that define this mecca for artists. These demos will lead to an interesting discussion of what constitutes a study and what you would want to capture in a more finished painting vs a sketch. There will be several sketches capturing varied lights of the transient beauty that has made Taos a hotbed of creativity for so long. Sherrie, David and Jackie will answer your questions about plein air sketching and how to deal with changes that inevitably happen outdoors.

WEEK THREE: Mountain Men in Their Landscape

In a live demo using sketches from a mountain man retreat Sherrie attended in Oklahoma, she will create a new composition capturing this experience. She’ll talk about what impressed her from the event and what made her choose the idea for the demonstration. David will be available to discuss composition, what it takes to come up with ideas, and all while answering your questions regarding the unfolding painting. He will also be the predominant spokesperson for this intriguing aspect of getting your idea on the canvas while Sherrie paints her figure in a landscape.
