With teaching experience of over 100 years, we know how to share our knowledge and understanding simply. Most online instruction offers too many artists with conflicting ways of teaching where they only share their personal techniques. We teach you the basic principles behind good painting and drawing so you can discover what you have to say artistically instead of imitating a technique. Then you’ll be able to paint any subject matter you choose. We’ll show you how with a unified message.

I am enjoying the art videos so much. I’m devouring the ones on painting portraits. I have been commissioned to paint someone’s 12 grandkids, and your videos came just at the right time. I’m learning so much, and then putting it into practice. Thanks SO MUCH for making these videos available.
I’ve been watching your videos and wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the talent, brushwork, conceptual skills, discernment and thoughtfulness in your work. Thank you!
I want to thank David and Sherrie for doing the Sunday’s with David Leffel. It has added so much to my art education, and I especially enjoyed the self portrait 3-week demo – one of the best I’ve seen. David is a gifted teacher and a true Master Artist. I have also enjoyed Sherrie’s videos with my guild membership and paintings and books. She is also a Master Artist. Jacqueline’s videos are also very good.
We were getting ready for preschool with (our daughter) Eva, and she was doing some drawings with crayons, and for some strange reason we decided to ask her, “Who do you want to paint like?” And I was thinking that she’d say “I want to paint like Mommy.” But her response was, “I want to paint like David and Sherrie.” She said it with a very firm voice and a very serious face. I was amazed…I had to share this with you as you inspire us so much! Eva actually listens to SUNDAYS WITH DAVID LEFFEL on Facebook and many tutorials from the Artists Guild Library. She could recognize you on a video and by your voices.
The “Language of Drawing”, by Sherrie McGraw is a classic book for your reference library. One that will end up with ragged edges because you will be referring to it time and time again. Not a traditional ‘how to draw’ book but one that will teach you how to think, approach and ultimately express line in a way you only dreamed of. Who doesn’t want their line to come alive and strike a musical chord? I know I do. We romanticize about it. But more than that you want to actually do it. And it is possible. Throw those old notions out the window that only cast drawings and laborious exercises can get you there. It’s gesture that we respond to and it’s knowing simple landmarks to capture that gesture that can get you there in a few simple strokes. Sherrie’s always been my secret weapon. Now she can be yours.

A few years ago I learned about David Leffel and his his painting style on YouTube. When I first saw his videos and his style of Abstract Realism I knew then I had found my teacher. Then I learned of Sherrie McGraw and Jacqueline Kamin. I began to buy books first and my art began to improve rather fast. Then I decided I needed to subscribe to the Artist Guild; and shortly afterward my painting improved as well. I know that I am getting a first-class education and I am well on my way to becoming an artist. For more than a year now I have been getting a great value and a first class education of fine drawing and painting classes from the best.
Hi Coach, I don’t know if I’ve ever said this, but “Sunday with David Lefell” reminds me of Frank Lloyd Wright’s weekly chats with his students in the latter years of his career…His students, carefully selected and provided with this marvelous residency learning opportunity, weren’t required to attend these events, but they became a treasured part of the experience. I became fascinated with Wright’s notion that in order to understand architecture you must understand the beauty of Nature and keep the two in harmony. I feel like that fantasy is now being fulfilled!
I appreciate all I’ve learned from watching the BLFA videos of drawing and painting classes. It’s not the easily assimilated, formulaic kind of art instruction one often finds, it is much more challenging. But that’s what I appreciate the most, that I am being challenged to think differently and to really learn how to paint.
I rate Bright Light Fine Art and The Artists Guild (with David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw & Jacqueline Kamin) the best at what they do. A person looking to learn art will get value that far exceeds their expectation. I am sure no one else can match their services and products. Believe me I have searched. You will learn methods, techniques, & practices from three of the best artists of our time. Bright Light Fine Art and The Artists Guild get rated 5 stars from me.
Thank you so much for such a quick response ….. I so look forward to that series on color …. and I so love painting and the work your team does to inspire the absolute beauty of oil painting and the passion the videos bring to my journey as an artist … BRAVO !!
I have learnt so much from BLFA…and the drawing and painting classes are restoring a lot of lost confidence in my painting skills.
Your workshop was pivotal for me….I will never look at another piece of art the same way. It came at the right time, when I felt stuck with my art and knew I wanted to take it to a different level – You provided me with direction!
About January I stumbled on the Artists Guild. Thank you so much for creating this platform. I spend hours watching and listening to David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw and Jacqueline Kamin. Your experience, generosity and warmth has impacted my painting and my life.
The tutorials I am watching for this course, on your member’s site is so informative, Sherrie. Your unique way of teaching how to observe and draw so elegantly and delicately has changed the way I looked and drew gesture before. Every time I look at one of the videos by you, David Leffel or Jackie, a whole new world of seeing and possibilities open up…I shall never say enough thank you…love from NZ!
I have really enjoyed my membership in the Guild for 3 years now and my paintings have really improved from your instruction. I love the intimacy of hearing your voices and seeing the step-by-step process. Thank you so much!

Your form demo is really helpful. It is all starting to come into focus. I actually know most of this stuff and intuitively do a lot of it. I somehow created a vision of painting as being very difficult and if it comes too easily it must not be very good. This is an awakening for me, spending 4 or 5 hours every morning painting along with your demos and listening to the lectures. I am seeing progress almost daily. I see the Atelier movement as a disease in most cases and equating mimesis to mastery as a hoax. Back to cleansing my soul.
I am so lucky to find…my teachers & so excited to join the Guild! I have always wanted to paint and draw and wanted to study in Academy of Art in Warsaw, Poland when I was younger. But my father was a scientist and discouraged me from becoming a painter saying that I will be starving :)) So after different careers I started painting again recently and finished a Diploma in oil Painting in Norfolk, UK last December. The teacher didn’t resonate with me but luckily my friend from the Diploma suggested David.
I saw David’s workshop online about soft and hard edges and it was such a revelation to me! He is a genius who can explain complex ideas in such a simple way!!! I immediately signed to study in your online school and it has been an amazing journey!! My painting improved and a lot of my friends from the diploma signed up to your school after seeing my progress! Many thanks for being such an inspiration!
I always learn something new whether I am watching for the first time or the third time. They (the drawing and painting classes videos) are complex, they are fun, and most of all they are full of ‘aha’ moments. Love them.
Thank you and the other members of the Artists Guild for the excellent workshop. I found it entertaining, educational and downright mind-blowing. You are all marvelous.
How very wonderful these videos of fine art drawing and painting classes have been. I have learned more this last year being a member of The Artists Guild of Bright Light Fine Art than I have in all the years of my painting experience combined. You are so extremely generous, all of you, with your extraordinary knowledge. You are not only national treasures, but global ones indeed! From the bottom of my heart, and with great sincerity, THANK YOU!
I just watched the video ‘Abstract Realism.’ I had to tell you how much I enjoyed that video as well! I love them all but the videos where you both speak about art are so wonderful. What an amazing gift you both are for each other, you can just tell that there is such a mutual admiration between you both. I truly enjoy those videos. Documenting your work and sharing your thoughts on art for future generations! What a gift to everyone. Imagine if we would have had this technology for all the masters over the last 500 or more years what we would know today!
Dear Wonderful People, I have just watched my first lesson on your website. I am 70 years old and the overwhelming astonishment at the sheer beauty that was unfolding before my eyes and the words were music to my ears…blew my mind away. Thank you!
I just had a chance to watch the video of Jackie painting the rose set up and you speaking—how great it was for me to be able to sit at home and view this. This is a great learning tool for me and I thank you for making these drawing and painting classes and videos available to your fans.
I stayed up until the wee hours reading it from cover to cover, and marveling at your grace, wit and mastery. I mean, really. I’m just speechless about it. Kind of like seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time; there’s just no box in my brain that the beauty can fit into.
The first time I listened, I was stumped by the information; the second time there was an inkling of understanding; the third time there was an epiphany, and I understood. I’m starting over; I’m able to let go of useless past information, and will put these instructions into practice. A heartfelt thank you for this wonderful resource, and hope to attend a live session someday.
I just want to say ‘Thank you’ to Bright Light Fine Art, all of you, for this amazing Guild. In just one week you have cleared my head, put confidence back, answered questions that had appeared to be unanswerable and stimulated my love of art to the degree that I now believe in myself. Thank you…and I have only just begun with you. You are an inspiration and, more importantly, an essential element in the learning about and how to understand the creation of good art. Thank you very much. I hope you will never go away.
